Frequently Asked Questions

Specialized Disability Accommodation (SDA) refers to housing designed specifically for people very high support needs. These homes are built or modified to include accessibility features and provide the necessary support for individuals with disabilities to live as independently as possible.

The main difference between Supported Independent Living (SIL) and SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) lies in the types of services they provide.

SIL focuses on support services that assist individuals in managing their daily living activities, such as personal grooming, cooking, and cleaning. SDA housing, on the other hand, is more related to accommodation and housing that has been specially designed and modified for extensive support.

Eligibility for Specialist Disability Accommodation is determined by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Generally, individuals who require a high level of support due to their disability and have SDA funding in their NDIS plan may be eligible for this accommodation. For more information, don’t hesitate to reach out to us! We are a dedicated SDA provider and are happy to guide you through the process and provide the information you need.

There are four main categories of Specialist Disability Accommodation:

  1. Improved Livability: These homes have features that improve the participant’s ability to live independently and include basic accessibility features.
  2. Fully Accessible: Fully accessible homes are designed to meet the needs of individuals with mobility impairments and include features such as ramps, wider doorways, and accessible bathrooms.
  3. High Physical Support: These homes are specifically designed for individuals with very high support needs, including features such as ceiling hoists, specialised bathroom facilities, and advanced technology.
  4. Robust: Robust SDA homes are designed for individuals with behaviours that may pose risks to themselves or others. These homes have additional safety features and are built to withstand more wear and tear.
